filterable Portfolios categories

    hello
    My Portfolios categories are organized like the following:
    Cat1:
    - sub Cat11
    - sub Cat12
    Cat2:
    - sub Cat21
    - sub Cat22

    On my home page i insert filterable portfolio item.
    So What i want is when the page is displayed only the Cat1 and Cat2 should be displayed and whenever the user click on Cat1 or Cat2 it displays the sub-categories.
    My problem now is it is displayed automatically with the sub-categories.

    any idea please?
