Is there a way to change visual builder layout for custom module

Currently, I use a blog module, with a code block with javascript to make it a carousel on the home page. The carousel js modifies/adds new elements to make it work. However, the user doesn't like how it shows on the visual builder, as it is showing as blog module layout not the carousel when they exit and the javascript runs.

I was thinking of making a custom plugin of this. As far as I've researched theres an extension provided that would create the necessary files and to be concerned about only two files the php and the jsx. My question is, is it possible to have two different layouts, depending upon whether they are in the visual builder? The documentation doesn't explicitly say.
