Latest child theme version

    We have 8.1.0. The plugin is 8.1.9. Should the child theme also be 8.1.9? Also if we are just updating the child theme and plugin, do we need to import the .xml and .json also? Are those updates or for new installs only? And correct me if I am wrong but isn't the purpose of a child theme so that you can make customizations that are not lost when updates are made to the parent? I tested the child update on a staging site and lost all my css. Yes easy enough to copy over but that kinda defeats the purpose don't you think?

    You just need to install the latest version of Divi Ultimate Plugin.

    And you can just skip all the rest (child theme, xml, json). This is because all the code updates are in the Divi Ultimate plugin.

    And once you install the latest version of Divi Ultimate plugin, you get to update it directly from Wordpress Admin dashboard for future updates.

    The staging site where I was testing had 8.1, the live site has 8.0.1, still ok to just update the plugin and no need to install new child?

    For the child theme, it's just an empty child theme for you to customize on. Thus, it's the same for every version.

    So you just need the plugin to be on the latest version.
