vertical-align: text-top is not working for input box

Hi guys,

I'm trying to integrate Mailchimp's sign up form with our website. So I copied the code they provided and tried to customize the code to fit in our website's style. My problem is about the text alignment of the form's input box: When I start typing things in the box, the text will be vertically middle aligned by default. Please see the picture below. I wanted it to be top aligned. So I added "vertical-align:text-top;" in the code but it's not working.

Could someone let me know what should I do? Thanks a lot!
