Website font is WAY too large for some visitors

    The website is https://carolinagunworks.com/

    In case you don't see the fonts messed up, I've attached a screen grab of what I sometimes see.

    My client explained that the body font was appearing way to large. When I looked, I saw what he was referring to. (screen grab attached.) I updated Divi (only behind by a 0.0.1 version) and all appeared to be OK. However, he contacted me again a week later and said it was still messed up for him. He showed me on his phone today and the fonts were still too big.

    So, I checked on my phone and laptop and both appeared to be OK in Firefox, but when I try in Chrome on my phone, it appears with the body fonts too big.

    When I try in Incognito or Private window, sometimes the fonts will then snap to normal. But not always.

    I've cleared the website cache and my browser cache and it seems to be loading properly. But Chrome on iOS still seems to be the issue.

    I'd like to know what would cause the body fonts to appear blown up like this. Is there something I might be overlooking?

    Many thanks!

    As a recommendation from my hosting, I've downgraded PHP to 8.3 rather than 8.4, which was what I previously had it on and was the latest available. This may have been the problem. I've checked the website in Chrome (usually the most problematic when viewing) and it seems to be OK now.

    Please let me know if anyone else is seeing the website with the problem text.

    Thank you!

    Hey Chris,

    I can still see the large / overlapping text. It seems to be a result of this CSS rule:

    .et_pb_text_2,.et_pb_text_4 {
    font-family: "Impact",Helvetica,Arial,Lucida,sans-serif;
    font-size: 97px;
    margin-bottom: 7px!important
    }

    The 97px font size is causing the large text.

    I can't tell exactly where it is being added, but I can see the styles being use on this page, for example, to set the "Services" and "Repairs" headings:

    https://carolinagunworks.com/gunsmith-services/

    My guess is the styles have been added to global CSS, but since the selector just targets the module order class (.et_pb_text_2 and .et_pb_text_4), it will apply on any page which has enough text modules.

    The solution would be to track down this CSS - maybe check in "WP Dashboard > Divi > Theme Options > General > Custom CSS" and restrict it to only those text modules that actually need it. You could do that, for example, by replacing the order classes with a new style class and adding that class to the text modules that need it, e.g.:

    .my-heading {
    font-family: "Impact",Helvetica,Arial,Lucida,sans-serif;
    font-size: 97px;
    margin-bottom: 7px!important
    }

    (Or use the Divi preset mechanism to create a preset for your heading text modules).

    A couple of other notes:
    * It looks like your styles were originally in two blocks - one for each of the two order classes, so you may need to track them both down.
    * Litespeed seems to be combining them into the one block.
    * You may need to clear your Litespeed cache after modifying the styles
    * The reason you're seeing it sometimes work correctly, I think, might be due to the order in which the styles are loaded - i.e. sometimes these styles will be applied, while in other cases the default font-size of 100% is applied.

    Hope that helps!

    Thanks very much for the suggestions.

    It turned out to be a Preset Style for that particular text box that I must have somehow set at 96pt (or whatever it was) and didn't realize it. Simply deleting the text box and recreating it would not be enough to get rid of that huge font. Once I clicked onto the three dots to get into the Preset and then reset the Text Text Size, could I get rid of that rogue super-large text.

    I've attached a screen grab from where I found the setting.

    Then, no matter how many times I cleared my browser cache or the website cache, it would still show the large text. It was likely a caching issue but I had to delete the old text box, create a new one with the same text inside, and save that before I could get the website to show up properly.

    That was clearly an exercise in persistent investigation. Slightly enjoyable, although a bit frustrating.

    Much appreciated.

    Ah, that makes sense. Nicely done, Chris :)

    The text size looks good from this end.
